Ustad bismillah Khan was a great exponent of shehnai. He was born on March 21,1913 in dumraon,bihar. His mother was mitthan and father was paigambar Khan. He was also known as qamaruddin Khan. He died on August 21,2006 in varanasi. He belonged to a traditional musicians family of Bihar. He earned many accolades like Bharat ratna,padma vibhushan,padma bhushan,padma shri etc..

Ustad Bismillah Khan (21 March 1916 – 21 August 2006) (born as Qamaruddin Khan), often referred to by the honorific title Ustad, was an Indian musician credited with popularizing the shehnai, a subcontinentalwind instrument of the oboe class. While the shehnai had long held importance as a folk instrument played primarily schooled intraditional ceremonies, Khan is credited with elevating its status and bringing it to the concert stage.[1][2]
