Long Essay on A Visit to a Hill Station 500 Words for Kids and Students in English
Our school organised a tour to Shimla during the summer vacation under the guidance of our physical education teacher. A group of twenty students left for Kalka by train. A metre gauge line goes up from Kalka to Shimla. It is a hilly tract of sixty kilometers that the train covers in about three hours. The train winds its way on the zigzag rails very slowly. It has a small engine and has only eight or nine compartments.
One can easily catch the running train. The mountains were bathed in the glory of the rising sun and everything looked majestic. The trees were so high that they seemed to be receiving messages straight from the heavens. There was greenery everywhere. We had left the scorching heat of the plains and felt the need for warm clothes.
A Visit To A Hill Station EssayOur teacher had booked rooms for us in The Grand Hotel that is located on the Cart Road near the bus stand. We had to bolt the doors and windows very carefully because sometimes, the clouds enter the rooms and wet beddings and clothes. When we sat on the ridge, the clouds passed by us and made us cool and we felt drenched.
Shimla is one of the most beautiful hill stations and the British had made it the summer capital of the government of India. The governor’s lodge has been converted into the Centre of Advanced Studies. Now, Shimla is the capital of the state of Himachal Pradesh. It has become overcrowded and one does not enjoy those lovely hours on the Scandal Point or on the Ridge.
There is a steep height that takes us from the Ridge to Jakhu temple. It is on a mountain peak surrounded by very tall trees. It is said that Hanuman had carried Sanjeevani for Lakshman from there. There are monkeys all around and look at the tourists with angry eyes. One has to carry grams to please them. There is a skating rink on the Mall Road where young people enjoy skating. There are some beautiful places around Shimla that attract tourists. The snow-skating rink at Kufri is barely ten kilometres from there.
The days passed so fast that we forgot, we had to go back. The manager of the hotel reminded us that our booking days were over. As we drove back to Kalka, we wished that we could have stayed there for a few more days. The visit was very refreshing and I enjoyed a lot.
Answer:
It is a great pleasure to visit a hill station in summer. It was in those months that I visited the Murree hills. To enjoy this visit fully. I also invited some close friends. We left Lahore for Murree by bus and reached Rawalpindi at about ten O’clock. From there we reached Murree at about 1 PM the same day.
It was a fine cloudy day and the weather was very pleasant. We stayed at “The Sunny View Hotel”. After having rest for a while, we came out to have a view of the hills. It was a new experience for me. The houses were built in an irregular way. This looked very interesting. The valley below the hills looked like a great cup full of beautiful flowers.
On the first day, we walked to the Kashmir point and enjoyed ourselves with its beautiful view. Well-dressed ladies and gents crowded the Mall cafes and tea-houses. I wondered how so many educated and cultured people had come together at such a far-off hill station at one and the same time.
In the evening, when we were returning to our hotel, it grew dark and a gentle shower of rain began to fall. We hurried back and reached our hotel in ten minutes. Then we changed our dress, as it had become quite wet due to rain. The night was quite cold and I had to cover myself with the blanket.
Throughout the night it continued raining out. When it was dawn, the rain stopped. We were very glad to see this sudden change of weather. After our breakfast, we went out to see the Samli Sanitorium down in the valley. Samli is a beautiful little spot situated in a fine valley. There are thick forests of pine trees, and the entire area is green and charming. There are also many fruit gardens on the slopes. On our way back we crossed two fast flowing streams. The water of these streams was very cold and clean, but it was not so deep.
After three days stay in the hills we returned to Lahore, which was as hot and dry as we had left it. Anyhow, our short visit to the Murree hills was a good change and I shall ever remember the beautiful “Sunny View” and the “Kashmir Point”. These were perhaps the most well-spent days of my life.
