Zoos are fun experiences for everyone. We get to learn about beautiful, exotic animals that most of us don’t get to see often. We also get to hang out with friends and family, but it is not this way for the animals that stay here. We should get rid of all zoos. When animals are taken away from their natural environmental habitat, and when they get released back in the wild, they can’t survive. Some animals even travel hundreds of miles each year and get put into a habitat a fraction of the size, with no space to run. The animals have people staring and pointing at them through the glass. They can’t get away from it, because most zoo enclosures don’t have space for the animals to hide. Some of the animals get taken away from their natural climates. Animals like penguins and polar bears who live in the freezing cold, get put into zoo enclosures that are a lot warmer. The animals don’t have variety in what they get fed, either. They get the same meals each day at the exact same time. The animals become dependant on humans when they’re in captivity. When animals are in captivity, they lose their natural instincts. Then, when they get released back into the wild, the animals can’t survive and a lot of them die. The animals look for humans to take care of them and fed them, but when they can’t find them, they don’t know what to do. They can’t find any food, so they starve to death. Zoos aren’t safe for humans, either. Some of the animals are very unhappy so they lash out, hurt, or even kill people. Most of the time, the animals hurt workers or trainers. In 2016, a 3-year-old climbed over a fence and got into an endangered gorillas cage. The workers ending up having to shoot the gorilla to save the kid. This wouldn’t have happened if we didn’t have zoos. We should get rid of the zoo because they take the animals away from their natural habitat, the animals can’t live in the wild anymore, and zoos aren’t safe for anyone. Some people say that animals in zoos live longer, but even though they could live longer, they live an unhappy and lonely life. We should not put animals in zoos.

Animals are abused, not given enough space and exercise, and they suffer from stress, boredom, and depression. Many animals die prematurely because of a bad diet, not enough exercise, and bad living conditions. Some polar bears get only ten meters of space when in their natural habitat they walk hundreds of kilometers. In Woburn Safari park in Bedfordshire, England admitted to killing excess monkeys. Animals will no longer be able to survive in the wild. Animals born into to zoos will no longer know how to hunt and do other things that are necessary to survive in the wild. Two lynxes released into the wild were found dead from starvation even though the area was full of hares, the lynx’s natural prey. People for zoos say they are preventing extinction, but what is the point if they will be captive forever. They would be better off if we just kept them in their natural environment. If we keep on building zoos and keep taking animals captive, they will be dependent on the human race when the human race is having enough of its own problems. Zoos are morally wrong. For animal rights we do not have the right to capture, confine, and breed other animals. Humans are animals too. We would probably euthanize them for being dangerous. Supporters of zoos say that they are preventing extinction. Then we should protect their natural habitats instead of creating animal prisons. The real reason people have zoos is because they make them tons of money. Zoos spend most of their money on concession stands, gift shops, and other improvements, not for the good of the animals. The zookeepers don’t care the animals like they say they do, they care about all the money their animals make them. True sanctuaries rehabilitate animals until they ready to go back to the wild. They do not breed animals, jail them, and trade them to other zoos and circuses. Living things do not have the right to put other living things in zoos. Imagine yourself as an animal. Your stuck in the same room for maybe the rest of your life. You have been torn from your family. People stare at you the entire day like you're not even a living thing with feelings. You think about why you were the one that had to be thrown into a cage away from your family and natural environment. What did you do wrong anyway to get such a punishment? Why isn’t this animal cruelty? Zoos should be illegal because humans do not have the right to capture animals, tear them from their families, and jail them, even if the animal is endangered.
