Sarojini Naidu was born on13th February 1879 in a Chattopadhyaya family. Her father was a great scholar and her mother was a fine Bengali poetess. Sarojini Naidu was a brilliant student who first studied at Madras University and later at King’s College, London and then Girton College, Cambridge. Finally she returned to India in 1898. Her beautiful collection of poems is called the ‘The Sceptred Flute’. She was very close to Mahatma Gandhi and got deeply involved in the National Movement by 1921. A freedom fighter, she represented India in the Round Table Conference. She was arrested during the Quit India movement. She was appointed governor of UP in 1947.
