We learn quite a many aspects of Helen Keller from the first half of the book. The most noticeable out of them is the aspect that she was a prodigy. She was born on June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia in Alabama. At the age of nineteen months she fell ill with brain fever which disabled her hearing and seeing faculties. Since she was a very bright child, she had so much to express, however finding herself disabled frustrated her. She became very restless and anguished at times.
Her another outstanding ability was her willingness to learn. She had voracious passion for learning, knowledge and exploration. Like Wordsworth, she learnt to find solace in nature and its peaceful serenity.
Her power of observation was commendable. How beautifully she has described the details of her observations! Even those with eyes and ears cannot describe as beautifully as she has done.
Her life changed dramatically after the advent of Miss Sullivan. The day she arrived at Helen's homestaed Helen called that day the most important day, because Helen had been leading an utterly dark, frustrated and meaningless life until the time her teacher arrived. She, like an angel, brought along hope and promise for better days. Miss Sullivan taught Helen the secrets of language.
Helen showed unprecedented courage, determination, perseverance and resilience in her character and finally overcame all the obstacles in her life.
