the dutchman of the pirate ship was a hot tempered man who hated the english. his hatred for them, in fact, was so strong that he told gulliver that he and his men would be tied and thrown back into the sea. when gulliver said to him, in dutch, that he wanted to speak to the two captains of the pirated ships he grew very angry. he nevertheless tried his best to throw back gulliver into the sea. however, he failed in his attempt. it was then agreed between him and the two captains that Gulliver would be set adrift in a small canoe with paddles and a sail. the dutchman, whose wishes could not be fulfilled, showered a wide variety of curses and abuses at gulliver. he was a man with an evil diposition who was hot tempered, foul mouthed, revengeful and full of hatred.
