It felt weird going back to school, especially after the war. France won another war: The Battle of Austerlitz. I was never really that interested in France's victories, but according to a passerby, this was probably the most memorable war that Napoleon has led. Even if I felt bummed out that we had school, I had to go, keeping in mind that I would be getting a spanking from Papa if I didn't.
After 15 minutes of walking, I finally reached my school. As I started walking to my classroom, I didn't see a single book anywhere. While going to my class, I checked the grandfather clock. I had reached late, like always. I remembered the worst part was to come: My class teacher, Monsieur Pascal.
I nudged the door and entered my classroom and tiptoed to my bench. Just when I thought that I was safe from a spanking, one of the students eventually tripped me, and Monsieur Pascal was suddenly aware of my presence. Instead of scowling at me for being late like always, Monsieur Pascal helped me up and met my eyes with a childish grin and a twinkle in his eyes.
As I sat down, Monsieur Pascal explained to all the students that due to France's new victory, we would be talking about our country and its prestigious history. He gave a very emotional and moving speech about our country which left all of us teary-eyed. I realized that I should be proud of my country's victory. Instead of doing that, I had been wondering why people went crazy when we won a war.
I felt ashamed. But it wasn't too late to redeem myself.
"Vive La France!" Monsieur hollered.
And we recited the same with dignity and admiration for our country.
