the life process


when we see processes,
especially studies of age
with an emphasis on living,
vis-à-vis slow v. fast
(if there is such a gauge)
we have evidence
experience is uneven,
like a juxtaposition
of minutes at the dentist
stretched longer than hours
in a lover’s embrace.
there is more to wisdom
than knowing which direction to go.
life comes down to good pacing,
not time over distance but
a difference others can see
that tells us we’ve grown
