.....DUST IF YOU MUST....

.....BY ROSE MILLIGAN....

FOR CLASS 8....

Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better

To paint a picture, or write a letter,

Bake a cake, or plant a seed;

Ponder the difference between want and need?

Dust if you must, but there's not much time,

With rivers to swim, and mountains to climb;

Music to hear, and books to read;

Friends to cherish, and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world's out there

With the sun in your eyes, and the wind in your hair;

A flutter of snow, a shower of rain,

This day will not come around again.

Dust if you must, but bear in mind,

Old age will come and it's not kind.

And when you go (and go you must)

You, yourself, will make more dust.

Answer:

⋆“The school boy”

I Love to rise in a morning morn,

when the bird sing on every tree;

the distant huntsman wind his horn,

And the skylark sing with me.

O! what sweet company .

 \rule{300}{2}

But to go to school in a summer morn,

oh! it drives all joy away;

under a cruel eye outworn,

the little ones spend the day,

in singing and dismay.

 \rule{300}{2}

Ah! then at times I dropping sit,

and spend many an anxious hour.

nor in my book can I take delight,

Nor sit in learning bower,

Worn thro' with the dreary shower.

 \rule{300}{2}

How can the bird that is born for joy,

sit in a cage and Sing.

How can a child when fear annoy.

but droop his tender wing,

And forget his youthful spring.

 \rule{300}{2}

O! Father and mother, if mud are nip'd,

And blossoms blown away,

And if tender plant are strip'd

of their joy in the springing day,

By sorrow and cares dismay,

 \rule{300}{2}

How shall the summer arise in joy,

or the summer fruit appear?

_William Blake
