The lily has a smooth stalk,

Will never hurt your hand;

But the rose upon her brier

Is lady of the land.

There’s sweetness in an apple tree,

And profit in the corn;

But lady of all beauty

Is a rose upon a thorn.

When with moss and honey

She tips her bending brier,

And half unfolds her glowing heart,

She sets the world on fire.

☞ DAFFODILS

I wondered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high O'er vales and hills ,

when all at once I saw a crowd ,

A host of golden daffodils ;

beside the lake beneath the trees ,

fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous a the stars that shine

And twinkle on thee milky way ,

They stretched in never ending line

Along the margin of the bay :

Ten thousand saw I at a glance ,

Tossing their head in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced ,but they

Out - the sparkling waves in glee :

A poet could not but the gay ,

In such a jocund company :

I gazed - and gazed - but little thought

What wealth the show to me and brought ;

For oft,when on my cough I lie

In vacent or in pensive mood ,

They flash upon that inward eye

which is the bliss of solitude ;

and than my heart with pleasure fills,

and dances with the daffodils.
