Answer:

The First Rainbow Sighting

It was 10 in the morning on a warm sunny day,

Little Johnny set out on his bike to play.

Momma Lauren called out ‘be careful, back at noon’,

But Johnny smiled as he could later pretend to not know what time is noon.

He went across alleys and reached Juan’s house,

As aunt Roseanne sat in her courtyard stitching her blouse.

Juan took out his bike and off the boys went,

To spend a couple of hours in solace, without any restraint.

The valley behind the bridge was a secluded place,

The whole town of Kingswood had only 600 upholding the human race.

The boys knew the path to take -to be in the sun,

To avoid the chilly shade away from which they would often run.

Johnny was smart to notice some clouds in the sky,

But He’d heard dad Morgan say it would be a lovely sunny day.

When it comes to trust, kids blindly believe their creators,

Looking upon them as teachers, enforcers and their mentors.

As they parked and spread the mat opening up a bunch of toys,

Juan felt a droplet or two bounce off his denim sleeves.

The more circumspect of the two he said ‘oh it’s gonna rain’,

‘Stop being silly and setup the battleground’ quipped Johnny with a grin.

But then Johnny had his favorite tweed hat getting clobbered,

The rain stopped as soon as they ran back into the shade.

It was as if nature was playing hide and seek in its own playground,

And that’s when Johnny noticed something surreal that was skybound.

There were colors spread around a particular patch of the sky,

He screamed in joy and Juan joined in on the spectacle standing by Johnny’s side.

The colors were in a perfect semi circle and it looked uber-neat,

They knew the valley was beautiful but this rainbow was just a treat.

They counted colors and called it a half ripped color pumpkin,

Stepping out this morning, into the valley had been a blessing.

Juan rued about not being allowed to carry a cell phone,

Would have captured a picture - for in 6 years he had never seen a rainbow.

The colors though seemed to gel into one another,

Not willing to let go off each other’s arms-as if holding onto their neighbor.

The sky and the valley looked even more beautiful now,

The boys stood there gazing till eternity until it was time to go.

They both went home and emptied their quota of excitement,

The rainbow had seeded a new goal in them - finding more of nature’s such presents.

That night, Morgan untied the mysterious knots from questions on Johnny’s mind,

Johnny now knew what caused a rainbow as he faded into a color filled vivid dream land
