I love how cricket is both a team game, but also an intense one-on-one battle at the same time. Every facet of cricket requires your teammates—your team is considered “all out” only if you have no more batting partners left. You can’t bat alone. And to score runs both you and your partner need to run in tandem.

A bowler requires his fielders to take catches, stop runs, get run-outs, etc. A bad fielding team can destroy a bowler’s confidence and enthusiasm.

But despite the intense team dynamic, at the core of the game, test cricket is a one-on-one game. Batsman vs bowler, and they talk to each other by means of a leather ball.
