The best help is not to hear the troubles of others for them, but to to inspire them with courage and energy to hear their burdens themselves, and meet the difficulties of life bravely. To help others, on requires a clear head, wise judgement and a warm heart we must be careful not to undermine independence in our anxiety to relieve distress. It is important, therefore, so far as possible, to help others and their bread rather than offering direct aid, it is desirable that every person should be self-reliant and not depend on charity.​
