Travelling in space is not always safe. Scientists have done their best to make space travel safe
but even today, it is a risky thing to do. A space shuttle has to travel at a speed of at least 15,000
miles per hour in order to break free of the earth's gravity. Space shuttles consume 1.9 million
litres of fuel when they are launched into space. When the space shuttle returns to the earth
from space, it faces many risks. When it comes back to the earth, it moves at a very high speed.
As it enters the earth's atmosphere, the air causes friction. This friction makes the spacecraft
heat up to a temperature of 2,691 degrees. Many spacecrafts were destroyed when they tried to
re-enter the earth. The latest space shuttles have specially designed ceramic tiles. These absorb
some of the heat and prevent the spacecraft from getting burnt.​
