numerator by 5 and when 3 is added to both numerator and denominator it becomes 3/4

Let the numerator be x

then required fraction = x/ x+5

ATQ, x+3/x+5+3 = 3/4

4(x+3) = 3(x+8)

4x + 12 = 3x + 24

x = 12

fraction = 12 / 12+5

= 12/17
