Relation between polarisation , P of dielectric material in the presence of external electric field , E is given by
P = χε₀.E
Here χ is the susceptibility of medium
ε₀ is the permittivity of medium{ e.g, free space }
and E is the electric field intensity.

Dielectric polarization takes place due to the formation of a dipole moment in an insulation material because of an electric field that is applied externally. Positive and negative charges move towards and away from the direction of the field.

The relationship between polarization P of a dielectric material in the presence of an electric field can be given as:

P = χε₀E

where

χ = Susceptibility of the medium in which the dielectric material is present.

ε₀ = Free space permittivity

E = Intensity of the electric field
