first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, was born on this day. Pandit Nehru loved children very much, and wanted to be with them always. The children too loved him and called him “Chacha Nehru” affectionately. Thus 14th November is celebrated as Children’s Day in his memory.
In my school too Children’s Day is celebrated very gaily. All the students wait for this day eagerly. We have no studies that day and wear our colorful dresses to the school instead of our uniforms. The teachers spend weeks in preparing a cultural programme for us.
This year the programme was very good and we children loved every minute of it. A group of teachers dressed in colorful sarees sang a welcome song. Then there was a very funny parody teaching us. After that our teachers danced to a Punjabi folk song.
