Answer:

Explanation:

Farm Linganna Gowda’s farm

Location Doddagubbi, Haveri District

Farmer Sri Lingana Gowda and Smt. Jayamma

Crops Ragi and Navane

Land area 1.25 acres

Report by Mr. Vishwas

Date Mar 22, 2014

The couple have been into organic farming despite all the chemical farming happening around them in the village of Doddagubbi. Their specialty is Millet. Being the only ones to practice organic farming the village, they have not given up and continue to do so despite all the chatter around them.

They have a 1.25 acres farm land close to their home and harvest a crop once every year. They are completely dependent on rains as the water source and thankfully rains are good in the region. They grow Navane, Ragi, Sajje, Avare, and Togari. Navane and Ragi are the primary crops.

They currently do not have any livestock but produce manure via compost. They have 3 bins where vegetable and plant waste is collected. Worms are then (Yerehula) released in to the bins which then converts them into the manure. It takes about 1-2 months for the entire process and they make about 8 quintals of manure in a year.

They have recently been granted flour, de-stoner, and polisher machines under the INSIMP scheme which they have installed in their village. The couple have invested over 1 lakh by themselves to set up the infrastructure to house these machines in their village. But they are having some issues as the machines are not in the best of conditions and the response from the manufacturers has not been good.

A special mention about Ms. Jayamma – She is a very active participant in several training programs and workshops ranging from self-employment, sericulture, farm disease management, manufacturing and marketing home based products and other rural based activities.
