Two person, both males in their thirties, were killed in head-on collision of a bus and a taxi. The accident took place in the national highway about 5 kilometres away from Ludhiana. Five occupants of the vehicles received major injuries and were shifted to a local hospital by an ambulance. According to the hospital sources the conditions of 3 are critical while all others were released after first aid. The deceased persons were identified as Rahul Sharma (34) and Himan Kumar (37) both are employees of a garment factory of Ludhiana. The police have established the cause of the accident as mechanical failure of the bus. The bus developed brake failure and went out of control.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of the state of Punjab has assured a relief of Rs. 2,00,000 each to the families of the deceased persons and Rs. 50,000 to each of the injured persons. He also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
