Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar was a polyhistor and social reformer of India. He became a powerful voice against the woman's oppression and propagated widow remarriage system.
He was simplifying the Bengali alphabet through his book called “Barnaparichay”. In his 200th birth anniversary, Bengalese celebrated “Vidyasagar Week”.
During this week many competitions, cultural programs, exhibitions were observed by Schools of West Bengal. Bengal’s chief minister Mamata Banerjee paid respect to this great son of Bengal.
