The West Bengal government will celebrate ‘Kanyashree Divas’ on August 14 to mark the success of the highly acclaimed Kanyashree project, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said.

On the occasion, she would felicitate girls around the state for their achievements in several competitions.

The number of beneficiaries under this project would increase from 22 lakh to 24 lakh this year, Banerjee said.

On the Independence Day, Banerjee said, she has asked all clubs, organisations, MPs, MLAs, municipalities, corporations, gram panchayats, blocks and zilla parishads to organise a cleanliness drive for an hour from 11 am keeping their vicinity and roads clean from garbage.

To a question, Banerjee said her state had already launched it’s own cleanliness campaign before Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat’ project and had got nationwide distinction.
