A fire broke out in Bandra’s Nargis Dutt Nagar around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, gutting around 50 shanties. No casualties have been reported so far and firefighting operations are still underway.

The fire broke out inside the massive slum at around 11 a.m. and eye-witnesses reported at least two-three cylinder blasts. The fire brigade has declared this fire as level IV (major) and 12 fire engines, 10 water tankers are undertaking operations. Besides, around 50 labourers, four JCBs, three tankers have been mobilised by the local BMC ward office. The high wind speeds have made it a challenging operation for the brigade.Several fires have occurred here in the past. The fire is in shanties in narrow lanes of the area and the brigade has mobilised teams from various spots to tackle it. Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar and Bandra MLA Ashish Shelar have taken stock of the situation.
