The Literary Club of Mahatma Gandhi College functions with the overt aim to develop the imaginative faculties of students by encouraging them to give free expression to their ideas through various literary forms. The activities of this club are planned to augment the output of the members of the club and thereby imparting these values to the student community as a whole. The literary capabilities inherent in the students need to be inhibitantly brought out to give flair to their creative aptitude. As a preliminary step,  Dr.Chitra.V.S the Convenor, and Saritha. M, the Advisory Member, with the incessant assistance of  Dr.Bijini R., the Club Co-ordinator, enrolled 22 student members who possessed  an inherent interest in literary activities in spite of belonging to varied disciplines . Till date the Club held four meetings which were presided over by the Convenor in the presence of the Advisory Member. In the meetings at the early stage, the student members introduced themselves. Each of them was provided with a platform to express their literary ideas and their passion for literary activities. Their details were accumulated to form a whatsapp group as suggested in action plan.  Student co-ordinators were selected, and after inviting suggestions from the student members, the Convenor and the Advisory Member roughly drafted a plan of activities for the Club for the year 2017-18.Weekly Book Reviews and Discussions to acquaint the students with the latest books, and authors was suggested to be carried out with each student member presenting a book review of recently read book.Subsequently, the Club decided to have random gatherings in the month of March. This was successfully carried out through weekly assignments intended to provide impetus to students to read and debate upon a book of their choice.

In June, the club, in association with the Theatre Club and Anti-narcotic Cell, decided to allot two days for various club activities held on 22nd june and23rd June 2018 . Dr.Sujatha T.S., the Principal of the College, presided over the function. A Meet-the-Author Session  as proposed in the action plan was realised through the programme titled Ingenium 2018 in which students got a chance to interact with a popular author writing in English, providing a better understanding of their literary objet d’arts. Devadas R., a young novelist, spoke on enhancing creative writing calibre at a young age. Along with this, One-day Seminar on the Mechanics of Creative Writing, to sharpen the creative productivity of the students was also carried out in which Devadas discussed how to handle the technicalities of creative writing titled The Art of being Creative. To impart messages against drug abuse and alcoholism, on the 22nd of June, the club in collaboration with Theatre Club and Anti-Narcotic Cell enacted a play titled Aasakthiyil Ninnu Maranatthilekku which was funded by the Excise Department of Kerala. The second day of this programme was a discussion of emerging trends in literature concentrating on the interdisciplinary aspect of culture studies. The session was presided over by Dr. Madhu, Principal-in-Charge for the day. The club convenor Dr. Chitra.V.S introduced the guest of the day, Dr.Saji Mathew, a well-known academician and Research Officer at KSHEC and he spoke on Interdisciplinarity/Disciplinarity in Cultural Studies. The talk was sufficient to ignite a spark in the students on the topic. The Club Co-ordinator, Dr. Bijini and Dr.Gopakumar .N, NAAC Co-ordinator of the College paid felicitations to the programme. One of our student members had drawn a portrait of the guest when presented to him gained a great appreciation, which added to the attraction of the day.
