Cleanliness is next to
Godliness
25.10.15 New Colony,
Jabalpur. The people living in New Colony decided to take up a cleanliness
drive. They said that, "Cleanliness is next to Godliness". Dirty surroundings can lead to many problems
and diseases. Mosquitoes and Flies which carry disease causing organisms breed
in dirty places. Malaria, flu and other diseases are caused due to mosquito
bites. Flies sit on items of food and thus transfer pathogens to the food which
results in disease.
They felt that as part of the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan
or Clean India Campaign which aims at creating a clean India, it was their duty
to clean their locality. As we know the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was
launched on 2nd October 2014 at Rajghat. It aims at making India clean by 2nd
October 2019. It is supposed to be a tribute to the Father of the Nation on his
150th birth anniversary.
Its objectives are:To provide sanitation facilities to every family. To construct toilets. To provide adequate solid and liquid waste disposal
systems. Village cleanliness. Safe and adequate drinking water supply.
So the people living in my locality organized
themselves into a number of teams and took up the cleaning work. They also
wrote and circulated articles, gave speeches, staged skits and plays to show
the importance of cleanliness. They put posters all over the place to remind
people to keep the place clean. After a month of consistent efforts the
locality looks spic and span and is a pleasing sight for all the residents and
visitors alike.
