The much awaited Kanyashree Utsav was celebrated with much gaiety in Nazrul Manch on 14th August 2018. The day is important in the calendar of 200 girls who have benefited from the Kanyashree Scheme by the government.
On the occasion of the day long utsav several programmes were held to encourage the girls who have passed Std 12 this year. The programme coordinator Ms. Shyamala Devi, talking to the gathering said that the day is important in the lives of the 200 girls who have chosen to continue their studies further and succeed in life. Special certificates have been given to the girls and scholarships announced for those who wanted to opt for higher education.
The scheme encourages girls to study further in life rather than be forced in to marriage. Girls education, which is an important aspect for the prosperity of the society, is thus given a higher importance with the introduction of the scheme.
The government of West Bengal celebrated Kanyashree Utsav on August 14 to mark the success of the highly praised the project Kanyashree.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee graced the occasion. On that occasion, she felicitated all girls around the state both of rural village as well as towns and cities for their achievements in several competitions and activities.
The honorable chief minister declared that the number of beneficiaries under this project would be upgraded from 22 lakh to 24 lakh during 2018-2019.
On the auspicious Independence Day, Banerjee said, she requested all clubs, organizations, MPs, MLAs, municipalities, corporations, gram panchayats, blocks, and Zilla parishads to organize a cleanliness activity for an hour from 11 am keeping their locality and roads clean from garbage.
