On 20th August 1995 a passenger train called 'Kalindi Express' collided with a train which had hit a cow on the Firozabad track nearby Delhi and Kanpur. An estimated 400 people were killed and several injured, The passenger train after hitting a cow could not move beacuse of faulty brakes. The Puroshottam Express from Puri collided with it from behind at a speed of 70 kmph. About 2200 affected passengers in both the trains were asleep at the time of collision. Three carriages of the Kalindi express were destroyed and the engine and front two carriages of the Puroshottam Express were derailed. The government provided relief for the victims and sent their consolations.
