Excursions are means of educating ourselves on how certain things work and how we rely on certain services. The session has begun and we had a wonderful visit to the Post-office. The Pre-Primaries began their exploration at the Andrews Ganj Post-office. We had to spread the exercise over 3 days as the Post-office is not very large. So on 17 April, 2012, PPs A,B and C lead and on 18 April, D,E and on 19 April, F & G sections followed.

The children and teachers were welcomed warmly by the staff at the Post- office. They were taken around to see how letters are collected, segregated, stamped and then stored in pigeon holes for the postmen to collect. It was altogether a great learning experience especially in these times of email & fax. Visiting a post-office was something out-of-the-ordinary for the children although “post” is an ancient form of communication!

We had a glance of the various counters catering to the public, namely those selling stamps, envelopes, postcards etc. We were explained the way parcels are delivered to different places in the city and places in the country as well as many countries too! While returning we got to see a mail van and were also told the way the letters go by van to the airport and railway station. Later the children posted envelopes that they had prepared in class by drawing themselves, writing their names and putting a date. They had learned to fold and place these in envelopes addressed to their School and stamped with very interesting stamps. It was delightful to see the excitement on the children’s faces as they were posted their envelopes in the post box. They were naturally also very animated when their teachers played Postman in class as also when their letters were received at School!

We shared in the thrill and the education of this class trip which is likely to get a miss in the modern and fast age that we live in.

                         A visit to Post Office

13 January, Nashik: An educational visit is organised by National School for students to get knowledge about the post office and its work.

All class 9th students were gathered at school campus and a post office visit was started exactly at 7 a.m. Two teachers were accompanied with students.

It was really a wonderful experience because most of the students were first time visiting the post office. We were completely unaware about the work of post office. Our school teachers us to the post office and first we met the postmaster and all the employees of post office. It was Central post office of Nashik and we were really surprised after observing their work.

We thought that nowadays hardly people use post office for communication, but we were wrong. When we visit central post office, there were tremendous letters and couriers. Different people were appointed for different different work. They have systematically distributed their work. From receiving letters to packing them and sending to different locations. Everything was systematic and properly managed. Teamwork was playing a very important role in the success of post office. People were very polite in post office, they systematically explained us everything.

A visit was really a wonderful and knowledgeable. It was really beyond the imagination as nowadays we use emails and other means of communication. But even today post office is playing a very important role in our society. We were really thankful to our teachers as they have organised such wonderful trip for us. At 2:00 p.m. We all reached back to school. It was really nice experience.
