Nahargarh Fort is in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Built in 1734 by King of Jaipur - Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, it served as a retreat, as well as defense ring - along with Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort, for the city of Jaipur. The fort overlooks the city of Jaipur.The fort’s original name was Sudarshangarh, but was later changed to Nahargarh which means the ‘Abode of Tigers’.
The fort has undergone extensions and renovations, under subsequent rulers.

The fort was originally named Sudarshangarh, but it became known as Nahargarh, which means 'abode of tigers'. The popular belief is that Nahar here stands for Nahar Singh Bhomia, whose spirit haunted the place and obstructed construction of the fort. Nahar's spirit was pacified by building a temple in his memory within the fort, which thus became known by his name.
