The players pass the football amongst themselves to score a goal against the other team by shooting (kicking) the ball into their goal post. But it ain’t as easy as it seems, the other team has a goalkeeper at the goalpost whose task is to prevent the ball from reaching inside the goalpost. He can either stop or deflect the ball but the ball shan't reach the goalpost at any cost. This contains other twists and turns including avoiding the defenders of the other team.

This sport is also known as “soccer” in many countries to distinguish it from another type of “football” which is rather rugby. FIFA, a popular body, is the highest governing body of this game.
