Being a good citizen of the world, it becomes each and everyone's responsibility to help the senior citizens. Turning to old age is a cyclic change which everyone has to pass through. Hence, at the time when any old people requires any help, one should always help them. Generally, it is noticed that they do not get much attention which they require in that stage of their life. The young generation often tends to forget that they too will fall for the same in their future.
In India, it is observed that with time, the younger generation look towards the elderly as a burden and a source of disturbance in their life. They start to neglect them and avoid their thoughts and instructions. Mostly this happens as a result of the problem because of the generation gap. Both the elderly and the young are not willing to accept and consider what the other thinks and believes. Hence, they start to neglect them and give no importance to them.
Almost 100 million senior citizens reside in our country.
Reports show that the elderly in our country are subjected to abuse (physical and verbal), neglect and disrespect.
The highest rates of elderly abuse are in the cities of Bengaluru and Nagpur and the least in Delhi and Kanpur.
Most of the senior citizens depend on their children for economical help.
The children often abuse their parents and thus leave them helpless.
