We wouldn’t know the sun was gone for eight-and-a-half minutes. Then Earth would head off in a straight line, into eternal night.

If the sun disappeared, for eight-and-a-half minutes we’d have no idea that the sun had gone. We’d still see it – lingering, like a ghost – in the sky above Earth’s day side. As soon as the last of the sun’s light reached us – eight-and-a-half minutes after the sun itself disappeared – the sun would blink out and night would fall over the entire Earth.

Not until that instant would Earth sail off in a straight line into space. Einstein’s special theory of relativity tells us that no signal in the universe – not even the tug of gravity – can travel faster than the speed of light – about 300,000 kilometers, or 186,000 miles, per second. Though free from the sun’s gravity, we’d be traveling at the same speed as before – about 18 miles, or 30 kilometers per second. So Earth would be traveling at the same speed as always into eternal night.

If you were on Earth’s night side when the sun disappeared, you might not notice anything … at first. But then the night sky would begin to change. For example, if there were a full moon – which shines with reflected sunlight – its light would disappear a few seconds after the sun’s light blinked out. Over the course of several hours, the planets would wink out one by one, as they reflected the last of the sun’s light to us.

Originally Answered: What happens if the sun does not rise?

If sun does not rise it implies → Earth has stop rotating.

Results → Disaster , most probably end of human race

Earth rotates on its axis from west towards east at about 1675 km/hr.

Every thing on the earth will be thrown east wards at a huge speed resulting in death, destruction. The atmosphere will create winds as disastrous as Atomic Blasts.

Tsunamis :

the momentum , inertia will make the the ocean water to give rise to huge gigantic waves that will clean the in lands in munitues.

Assuming, all life to be ended after this , the earth is still standing still in it’s position, Half of the earth will be baked under constant heat of the sun and the other half will be completely frozen . From the remaining resources life may appear again from the very begining , but Humans won’t be there in the upcoming centuries unless evolution continues it’s cycle.

The only possible explanation is..

“ As we all know that earth spins and it gives the effect of sun rising and setting. So if the sun doesn’t rise it means the the rotation of earth has stopped.”

we all know what happens if earth starts rotation

“The winds blow at 1000’s of miles per hour from east to west and the days would be 6 months longer and the nights would be 6 months longer.

But don’t worry we all die in the first day itself because of High winds, Incredible tsunami, No gravity and all”.

All the planets in our system revolve around sun due to the gravitational force. If the sun disappeared they don’t have anything to centre and all planets loose their path

Hope I got your answer and lets hope that day never comes any way near coming 6 billion years.

If sun does not rise this will cause the following complications in the life of the living beings.

Explanation:

  • The sun is the major source of natural light thus in the absence of sunlight the living organisms will experience the darkness.
  • Without sunlight the day and night cycle will be affected conversely.
  • Without sunlight the plants and other autotrophs will not be able to produce their food by the process of photosynthesis. Thus if the plant population reduces this will directly affect the consumer levels in the food chain.
