This method is practiced in densely populated regions of the world mainly in Asia. The land holdings are usually small and farming is very intensive. Every bit of cultivable land is utilised for agriculture. A large amount of manual labour is used and farm machines are rare. Animals like buffaloes and oxen are kept as drought animals. Farmers use irrigation water, high yeilding varieties of seeds, natural manures etc to increase the per hectare productivity .
