Answer:
Effects of deforestation:
We depend on forests for our survival, from the air we breathe to the wood we use. Besides providing habitats for animals and livelihoods for humans. But our failure to take care of our forests is threatening the very existence of man and wildlife. The effects of deforestation are as follows:
1. In the absence of trees and forests the fertile top soil is washed away by rainwater making cultivation impossible.
2. Trees prevent desertification. Fertile lands can become deserts and the existing deserts grow bigger.
3. Trees retain water in the soil. Without forests the entire rainwater flows into the sea. The water is then not available as ground water.
4. Deforestation decreases rainfall. It will lead to worldwide food scarcity and famines due to low and unpredictable rainfall.
5. Deforestation contributes to the decrease in oxygen level and increase Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Increased Carbon dioxide level results in lungs diseases, cancer and lower life expectancy.
To save Earth our home and all species of life in it, we must prevent further felling of trees. Trees are our lifeline and we must start planting more and more trees.
