Aurobinda Ghosh was born in Kolkata on 15th August 1872. His father was Krishnadhan Ghosh and mother was Swarnalata Devi.
When Aurobindo was 5 years old his father got him admitted to Loreto School of Darjeeling for his primary education. Two years after when he was only a boy of 7 his father took in abroad to educate him in foreign education. The little boy became famous as Rishi Aurobindo in later years.
Completing his education there he appeared in Indian Civil Service Examination only at the age of 18 and attained admiring success. The Maharaja of Baroda brought him to India and gave him the post of Professor in English literature of Baroda college. Later on he became Vice Principal of that college but he could not like this profession of teaching very long and as a result he left his vocation and joined Indian freedom movement in 1906.
He started non cooperation movement against the British government and formed a secret society to drive out the British government from India.
Police arrested him from a shelter of Muraripukur of Kolkata. During that period, Chittaranjan Das became famous as a renowned barrister of Kolkata. His commendable effort helped Aurobindo to be released by a judicial trial of High Court.
In 1910 he set off for Pondicherry of South India and there he founded hermitage and he was engaged in austere ascetic practice. This Revolutionary Yogi left for his heavenly abode in that hermitage of Pondicherry 5th December, 1950.
