Friendship day is the day when people all around the world celebrate one of the most beautiful relationships in the world, friendship.
The idea of World’s very first Friendship Day was proposed by Dr. Ramon Artemio of Paraguay in the year 1958. Though the 65th Session of the United Nations General Assembly declared 30 July as the “International Day of Friendship,” many countries celebrate it every year on the first Sunday of August. Some countries like Argentina and Brazil celebrate Friendship Day on 20 July. Others like Estonia and Finland observe Friendship Day on Valentine’s Day.
On this day, various events, activities, and other initiatives are planned to promote the message of universal solidarity, brotherhood, and mutual understanding.
In India, Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August. On this day, people try to spend some quality time together with their close friends and express their unwavering love for each other.
Many Friendship Day gifts such as flowers, wristbands, and cards are exchanged on this day. With the spread of social media and internet, celebrating Friendship Day has gained huge popularity and is celebrated by young and old alike in large numbers.
