Iltutmish (reigned 1210 - 1236 CE)

After Qutbuddin Aibak's death his son became the Sultan . He was , however, replaced by Shamsuddin Iltutmish, the son in law of Qutbuddin . Right from the moment he ascended The Throne he had to tackle many threats from the Rival contenders to the Throne of Delhi . He was able to handle them and succeeded in consolidating his position. This is the reason why historians regard him as the real founder of the Delhi sultanate
