Chandragupta and Bindisara, the two emperors of Mauryan empire was expanded their kingdom from central India to the southern regions.

But they did not include the Kalinga (Odessa) in their kingdom.

Afterward, Ashoka was captured the Kalinga and according to the researches, edicts of Ashoka are the main written sources of Mauryan times.

Apart from that, Mauryan administration was divided into five important political zones which were located in Patluputra, Taxila, Ujjayini, Tosali and Suvarnagiri.
