The Coriolis Force may be defined as the force that comes into effect due to earth's rotation, and is responsible for the moving objects like air currents.  In the northern hemisphere the deflection is seen in the right side, and in the southern hemisphere it is in the left side.

Explanation:

  • The term Coriolis Effect is so called after a French civil engineer Gaspard. G Coriolis.
  • The air currents moving from the high to low pressure should by nature move in a its particular direction, but it gets deflected from its path.
  • This happens due to the coriolis force which comes in effect due to the rotation of the earth.
  • The air moving from the high pressure area to low pressure area in the northern hemisphere gets deflected to the right due to the Coriolis Effect.
  • Similarly, the air moving from high to low pressure area in southern hemisphere gets deflected to the left due to Coriolis Effect.
  • The deflection of the air is dependent both on the speed of the wind and the latitudes on which it is flowing.
  • High speed winds gets deflected more.
  • And the Coriolis Effect is maximum at the poles, and they gets maximum deflection.
