After the death of IItutmish the nobles declared his eldest son Ruku uddin feroz, the Sultan. But, he was murdered only seven months later and Razia become the Sultan.

Razia crushed her opponents. She gave higher positions to non Turk nobles.She was an able military general and was considered an exceptionally capable ruler.She used to dress up like a man while going on military expedition. Razia could rule for a short period of three and half years only.She was killed in a battle in 1240 CE.
