Anglo- Mysore Wars (1766-1799)

Haider Ali was the ruler of Mysore between the years 1761-1782. During his reign, he did not encourage trade with the British as he had formed an alliance with the French. His son, Tipu Sultan, also did not allow trade with the British. This enmity caused the four Anglo- Mysore Wars between the year 1766-1799, In 1799, British captured Srirangapapatam. Tipu Sultan was martyred in the war. The defeat of Mysore made way for British to establish their supremacy over most of India.
