⏩Bankim Chandra Chatterjee or Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay was a Bengali poet, novel writer and journalist. He is the original author of ‘Vande Mataram’ – the national song of India.
⏩ Birth and Early life : He was born on 27th June, 1838 near Naihati, in Bengal. He was a Brahmin by birth. His father was Jadav Chandra Chattopadhyaya. His mother was Durgadevi Chattopadhyaya.
His marriage took place when he just 11 years old. After the death of his first wife in 1859, he married Rajalakshmi Devi.
⏩ Education: His early education took place at Hoogly Mohsin College. He was enrolled at the Presidency College. He carries the honor to become one of first few people to complete graduation from Calcutta University.
⏩ Career: In 1858, he joined the British Government and served the position of Deputy Collector and Deputy Magistrate. He retired from service in 1891.
⏩ Literary career: He wrote poems, novels and essays. His poetic work “Lolita” is a masterpiece. He wrote many novels suchas ‘Bisha Briksha’, ‘Krishnakanter Will’, ‘Rajsingha’, ‘Kapalkundala’, ‘Devi Chaudhurani’, ‘Anand Math’.
