Molecular weight is a measure of the sum of the atomic weight values of the atoms in a molecule. Molecular weight is used in chemistry to determine stoichiometry in chemical reactions and equations. Molecular weight is commonly abbreviated by M.W. or MW.

Answer:

A material's molecular weight is needed to notify a person how many grammes are contained in one mole of that chemical component. In chemistry, the mole is the standard unit for determining how much of a material is present.

Explanation:

The sum of the atomic masses of all the atoms in a molecule is called molecular weight.

For example, NH_3  is the molecular formula for ammonia, indicating that this molecule has 4 atoms, 1 atom of nitrogen (N) and 3 atoms of hydrogen (H). Now we have to find the atomic weight of (N)and (H) using a periodic table of elements, which is 14  and 1 respectively. Now in order to determine molecular weight of ammonia we have to apply the contribution from each atom that is

NH_3 = 14(1)+1(3)

=14+3

=17  grams/mole
