  • Gradation involves earth material erosion, transport and deposition. You can divide the gradation process into two particular types.

(a) Degradation referring to the erosion and transportation of soil.

(b) Aggradations referring to the accumulation by deposition of eroded materials.

  • The combined impact of degradation and aggradation is to smooth the surface of the soil by eroding elevated elevation places and filling in reduced elevation regions to a stage where erosion forces are no longer able to function. The point is known as base level.
