Akbar's Din-i-Ilahi was a religion he found in 1582 AD. He had a great thirst for spiritual knowledge which led to the establishment of the Ibadat Khana. He called many great spiritual leaders of Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Buddhism and Zoroastrianism who gave Akbar the discourses on their religious beliefs and ideas. Akbar tried to merge them and formed the principle of Sulh-i-kul, which empowered universal peace and brotherhood. This was later adopted in Akbar's Din-i-ilahi. Although Akbar promoted his religion but did not constrain the members of his court or his subjects to follow his newly founded religion.
