Answer:

(1) In amniocentesis, amniotic fluid containing foetal cells is collected using a hollow needle. This needle is inserted into the uterus ol pregnant mother, under ultrasound guidance.

(2) The chromosomes from the foetal cells are sujected to karyotyprg. This helps to detect abnormalttes in the developing foctus.

(3) Amniocentesis is misused to determine the sex of the unborn child. This is illegal in India because it results into female foeticide.

(4) Another risks involved in amriocentesis are miscarriage, needle injury to foetus, leaking amniotic aid, intection, etc.

(5) As per MTP Act (1971) the misuse of amnocentesis is curtalled.
