The Bhopal Gas Tragedy or Bhopal Disaster was an industrial accident. It took place at Union Carbide subsidiary pesticide plant in the city of Bhopal. On 2nd December 1984, the plant released approximately 40 tonnes of toxic Methyl Isocyanate (MIC) gas. Thousands of people died from the effects of the gas.
