The 2001 Gujarat earthquake, also known as the Bhuj earthquake, occurred on 26 January, India's 52nd Republic Day, at 08:46 AM ISTand lasted for over 2 minutes. The epicentrewas about 9 km south-southwest of the village of Chobari in Bhachau Taluka of KutchDistrict of Gujarat, India.
The intraplate earthquake reached 7.7 on the moment magnitude scale and had a maximum felt intensity of X (Extreme) on the Mercalli intensity scale. The earthquake killed between 13,805 and 20,023 people (including 18 in southeastern Pakistan), injured another 167,000 and destroyed nearly 400,000 homes.

The Bhuj earthquake was an earthquake that occurred in the city of Bhuj in Gujarat. This is known as Bhuj earthquake. This earthquake occurred on 26 January 2001 in the district named Kutch in Saurashtra region of Gujarat state. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in Chabari village of Bhachau taluka of Kutch district of Gujarat. This earthquake was a very destructive earthquake.

About 15 to 20000 people died in this earthquake. Apart from this, more than one and a half lakh people were injured and there was a lot of loss of life and property in this earthquake. About 40,000 houses were destroyed in this earthquake. This earthquake occurred on 26 January 2001 at 8:40.
