Buffer is an aqueous solution used to keep the pH of a solution nearly constant. A buffer consists of a weak acid and its conjugate base or a weak base and its conjugate acid.

Buffer capacity is the amount of acid or base that can be added before the pH of a buffer changes.A buffer may also be called a pH buffer or buffer solution.They can neutralize small quantities of additional acid of base.
