- These are the solution which opposes the change in its pH when acid or alkali is added.
- The solution which contains mixture of weak base and its conjugate acid or weak acid and its conjugate base.
- There is an equilibrium between weak base and its conjugate acid or vice versa.
- There are two types of buffer:
- Acidic buffer: where pH is less than 7.
- Basic buffer :where pH is greater than 7
Solubility product
It is a product of solubilites of ions present in mol per litre of the solvent.it is generally used for sparingly soluble salts. It is denoted by the symbol.
The solubility product can be calculated as
