A candle flame consists of several different zones with different temperatures. Colors tell us the temperature of the flame. The outermost zone is the hottest among all zones and is blue in color, and this is due to complete combustion. It is the non-luminous part of the flame.

  • The candles produce the light by the releasing the heat. The candle produce the light by the chemical reaction that is called as combustion.
  • In combustion reaction the candle wax reacts with the oxygen present in the air to release out the carbon dioxide gas.  
  • The candle flame is produced as a result of the combustion reaction. In the combustion reaction the flame color depends upon the factors like nature of substance used, amount of oxygen and temperature.
  • The complete combustion causes the outer zone to appear blue this is the hottest zone in terms of temperature. The yellow color is the middle zone of the candle. This is because of partial combustion of fuel. The innermost part of flame is black due to unburned vapors of wax.
